Amal Sinha, CEO, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited

Graduate of Delhi’s prestigious SRCC, Amal Sinha is a Chartered and Cost Account with more than 25 years of rich experience under his belt. His deep understanding transcends manufacturing and service sectors with expertise in areas like Corporate Finance, Strategy Planning, Budgetary and Financial Control, Audits (of various kinds), Regulatory Affairs, Indian Accounting Standards and Power Distribution.

After working for Escorts Ltd for 15 years (and L&T Group before that), Amal joined BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) in 2006 as the head of the company’s business process re engineering group, followed by its CFO overseeing areas of functional finance and accounts. Subsequently, he was elevated as Director Finance.

Since 2016, he has been working as the CEO of BRPL – a joint venture between Reliance Infrastructure Limited and the Delhi Government – and having revenues in excess of Rs 10,000 crore. He, supported by a workforce of around 10,000, is responsible for supplying reliable electricity to around over 25 lakh consumers in South and West Delhi.

Sanjay Banga, President, Tata Power

Sanjay Kumar Banga is the current President of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL). A power sector veteran with Twenty-seven years of experience in power Generation and Distribution. Mr. Sanjay Kumar Banga has been with TPDDL since July 2003. He brings with him extensive learning in Generation and Distribution operations, Selection and deployment of automation technologies for strengthening of electricity utilities to enable them to meet reliability and AT & C loss reduction target under regulatory controls. This learning, garnered through association with leading power electricity utilities in India equips him well to tackle the enormous challenges of electricity business at Delhi.

As, Vice president & Chief of Business development, Power System control, Power management, and contracts his core responsibilities are business development, Power procurement, Network Planning and Management, Engineering, Contracts &Materials Management, etc. He is Part of initial group who transformed ailing Distribution Company and now intimately involved in transforming TPDDL to become a benchmark utility by leveraging smart grid technology. The tasks at hand are optimization of CAPEX by efficient network planning & engineering, improving project Engineering and contract management by setting in place world class systems & processes. Mr. Banga firmly believes that difference between a company and competitor is the ability to execute and leader should be involved in execution as much as he involves himself in strategy planning.

Prior to joining TPDDL, Mr. Banga was with Reliance Energy (earlier known as BSES Ltd) from 1996 to July 2003, he was associated with almost the entire spectrum of Generation activity which includes Operation, Maintenance and project engineering at increasing levels of responsibility. He started his career with NTPC after graduation as engineering trainee and was in Operation & commissioning of super thermal power project from 1989 to 1995. His deep knowledge of technology & operational issues of Power sector makes him a regular speaker in seminars/workshops/panel discussions in India and abroad.

Mr. Banga is an alumnus of the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra. He has done Management in Business administration from Faculty of Management studies (FMS), Delhi. He is Member of Bureau of Indian standard (BIS) LITD10 core committee for defining standards for power system control and communication and he is Member of India Smart grid Task force.

Prem R Kumar, CEO, BSES Yamuna Power Limited

Mr. P.R. Kumar, 53 holds Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical Discipline from National Institute of Technology, Nagpur. Further, he has also completed Masters in Business Administration from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi. He is having a rich experience of over 30 years in Power Sector in the areas of Power Generation and Distribution covering fields like Project Planning, Project Development, Techno-Commercial Studies, Erection and Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance, Financial Analysis, Strategic Planning etc. Mr. P.R. Kumar has served in different organizations like U.P.S.E.B, N.T.P.C, D.V.B, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd. and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd.

He is associated with BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. Rajdhani Power Ltd. since 2002, managing the areas like Strategic Planning, Business Operations, Regulatory, Legal etc.

Prior to taking over as Chief Executive Officer of BSES Yamuna Power Ltd.(BYPL), Mr. P.R. Kumar was Business Head in BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd.(BRPL), the power distribution company which caters to over 2.4 million customers in South and West Delhi.

BSES Yamuna Power Ltd. is a joint venture Company with 51% stake owned by Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. and 49% by GNCTD, catering the power supply demand of 1.7 Million customers of East, North East and Central Delhi.

BSES Yamuna experienced a sharp turnaround under the leadership of Mr. Kumar, some of the key parameters are as per attachment.I.

Mark McGranaghan, Vice President, Innovation EPRI

Mark McGranaghan is Vice President of Innovation at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). This involves coordinating across the EPRI research sectors in areas of Technology Innovation as well as developing and implementing strategy for international coordination around all areas of innovation. Important areas of focus include EPRI’s public Thought Leadership presence, government research coordination and new technology demonstrations and challenges.

He has authored more than 70 technical papers and articles on topics ranging from power quality to insulation coordination of extra high-voltage (EHV) systems. His is an IEEE Fellow and in 2014 received the Charles Proteus Steinmetz Award for his expertise and dedication to power engineering standards development.

He is a co-author of the book, Electrical Power Systems Quality, now in its third edition, the premier textbook on power quality and compatibility since its initial release in 1996. He is a member of the executive committee of the CIGRE U.S. National Committee and Vice Chairman of the CIRED U.S. National Committee.

Mark has been with EPRI since 2003. He led EPRI research in the smart grid area and coordinated closely with government smart grid demonstrations and other efforts around the world. Prior to joining EPRI, McGranaghan was Vice President at Electrotek Concepts (1988-2003) and a Manager at McGraw-Edison/Cooper Power in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania (1978-1988).

Mark has Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Toledo. He has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

MK Goel, Chairman, Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC)

Shri M.K. Goel is serving as Chairman of Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (for the State of Goa & Union Territories) (JERC), a quasi- judicial body under Ministry of Power, GOI, in the scale of Secretary to the Govt. of India since February 2017.

Prior to this, he has been heading Power Finance Corporation (PFC), a Navaratna PSU with Ministry of Power, GOI and largest NBFC in the country as Chairman and Managing Director till September 2016.

An Electrical Engineer by profession, Shri Goel has more than 40 years of professional experience in entire value chain of power sector ranging from Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Financing, Regulatory and Judicial aspects, including over 9 years of Board level experience in PFC

He has brought many laurels to the Organizations he has served and bagged many awards and accolades including the Meritorious Awards for the exemplary work in the field of Rajbhasha (Hindi) for Three consecutive years from 2013 to 2016 by the then Hon'ble President of India, His Highness Late Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

He has widely travelled both within Country and abroad in various Countries including USA, Canada, Japan, France, Italy, Singapore, Hong Kong etc. where he has represented India in various capacities to present the strength and peculiarities of Indian Power Sector and Financial Markets etc.

Dr Rahul Tongia, Senior Fellow, CSEP

Dr. Rahul Tongia is a Senior Fellow with CSEP in New Delhi, where his work focuses on technology and policy, especially for sustainable development. He leads the Energy, Natural Resources, and Sustainability group at CSEP, and is also active in broader issues of technology. Tongia’s work spans the entire gamut of energy and electricity, with focuses on supply options including renewable energy (covering finance, grid integration, etc.); smart grids, which use innovative information and communications technology to improve management of the electric utility grid; issues of access and quality; and broader issues of reforms and regulations, including electricity pricing. He is also a non- resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and Adjunct Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, and helped found and was Technical Advisor for the Government of India’s Smart Grid Task Force. He is also Founding Advisor of ISGF, and works closely with discoms, states, and the central government on technology and policy, esp. for smart grids, clean technology, and sustainable development.
